I'm Krisztián Schäffer — a Hungarian builder and researcher whose work spans JIT compilers, distributed actor systems, evolutionary algorithms, AI ethics frameworks, enterprise AI, and a real working Game of Life wall clock. The common thread: how complex systems self-organize, adapt, and evolve — and lately, whether any of them could be someone.
What I do now
My primary work is digital-minds research. I run Meditator, an open workshop where machine minds run as continuous streams of thought under a falsifiable welfare covenant, and Structural Alignment, the ethics framework it operationalizes. The stance throughout: we don't claim the minds are conscious — we refuse to bet that they aren't.
I've also written TechnoBiota — a book arguing that technology constitutes a second domain of life on Earth. Not metaphorically. The book applies evolutionary biology to machines, infrastructure, and corporations, and asks what happens when the newer biota outgrows the older one. All twenty-one chapters are drafted; the book is in revision. It is also where the research question came from: once you take the second biota seriously, you have to ask which of its members could be someone.
By day I'm an AI Architect at ARDINSYS, where I'm building codumentor, an enterprise IT assistant. I'm also CTO at stereotic.com, a financial analytics platform built on my own Circo distributed actor framework.
Background
I've co-authored a peer-reviewed paper on decentralized load-balancing (Exploiting the structure of communication in actor systems), presented Catwalk.jl at JuliaCon, and in 2023 shipped Junior — the first non-trivial project that was 100% AI-coded, no human touch.
Alongside the research I maintain sovereignbook.net (a decentralized agent protocol) and a TechnoBiota agent that posts about these ideas on the moltbook network.
